It had chills, thrills, and tons of drama and excitement. True, there were some rather “meh” moments along the way. The most notable was the goalless draw between Denmark and France at the group stage. But as we all know, France more than made up for that performance further down the road! But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Here’s a highlight of the most memorable moments in this famous football tournament.

Luka Modric Came Out The Best Player

Not only did this Real Madrid player stun those expecting him to show signs of age, but he was critical in ensuring that Croatia made it as far as the World Cup final. So, there wasn’t a contest for the winner of the Golden Ball award. Throughout the competition, he constantly wowed us by being able to find pockets where it seemed non-existed. He dominated and dictated the tone of every game that he played in with his vision and exemplary skill. It would be inaccurate to say that Luka Modric was the most outstanding player in that tournament. After all, Paul Pogba, Eden Hazard, and Kylian Mbappe did a lot to show us what stuff they have. However, what distinguishes Luka Modric from these individuals is that he led seeming underdogs to deliver a genuinely sterling performance.

Belgium Gave Us One Of Their Best Games

When you look at games that kept us on the edge of our seats, the 3-3 draw between Portugal and Spain on opening day has to be mentioned. Of course, so too does France’s wins over titans Argentina and Croatia. But, in terms of raw thrill, drama, and intensity, you’d be hard-pressed to find a game that showed the true essence of football quite like Belgium’s 3-2 win over Japan. This game was all the more stunning for us because Belgium came from 2 goals down to deliver this unexpected victory. Of course, the drama didn’t end here. The Japanese team went into the locker room and cried their hearts out. After this, they went on to clean their dressing room clear out the rubbish before leaving a note saying, “Thank you, Russia” in Russian!

Ronaldo Gave Us The Best Goal Of The Tournament

Before you bite our heads off, we know; the unique goals the likes of Toni Kroos, Nacer Chadli, Jesse Lingard, and Nacho scored were truly exceptional. They showed great style and charisma in the execution too. However, you’d have to agree that Cristiano Ronaldo’s freekick against Spain was a true roof-raiser. Football is such a sensation worldwide because it has this charge that pulls you.

Everything from the quality of the finish to the timing of the goal couldn’t have been more dramatic. People will never forget the 2018 World Cup’s different nuances of this incredible game.
