Sergio Conceição admitted that he had warned his team about Atalanta’s playing style, which ultimately led to the winning goal. The Portuguese coach declined to discuss his future but instead focused on Milan’s potential achievements if they manage to win two trophies this season.
With their position in the standings becoming increasingly tight, the Coppa Italia remains Milan’s only hope. Conceição is preparing his team as best as he can for the second leg of the semifinals against Inter, amid mounting pressure.
Conceição’s Disappointment Over Milan Loss
Conceição criticized the lack of determination displayed by his players during the match against Atalanta. AC Milan had studied their opponent’s playing style, which resulted in Ederson’s goal, yet they still failed to capitalize on the opportunities presented to them.
The 49-year-old coach acknowledged that his team failed to take advantage of the chances they created. The 3-4-3 formation, which had been successful in previous matches, also failed to bring about the desired change.

“In the second half, we created chances, but unfortunately, we couldn’t capitalize on them effectively,” he continued.
Formation Change That Didn’t Make the Difference
Conceição made a formation change in the final minutes of the match, hoping to find an equalizer. Riccardo Sottil was placed as a right-back, despite it not being his natural position.
The Milan coach emphasized that the formation change was intended to boost the team’s attacking power. However, the change failed to deliver the desired result.
“I changed the formation not because I disliked the previous system, but to add more attacking strength,” Conceição explained to SBOTOP.

Conceição’s Focus for the Remainder of the Season
Conceição admitted that motivating his team, whose spirits were continuing to decline, has been difficult. Now, Milan’s only hope lies in reaching the Coppa Italia final by defeating Inter.
Despite the ongoing criticism, Conceição remained focused solely on preparing for this crucial match. He also made a pointed remark at those who had belittled his achievements.
“Since I arrived, people have been talking about other coaches for Milan,” said Conceição.
