Juventus have officially confirmed the departure of Argentine winger Nicolas Gonzalez, who will spend the 2025/26 season on loan at Atletico Madrid. The announcement was made on Monday night, September 1, 2025, marking the end of Gonzalez’s short but impactful spell in Turin.
Loan Deal With Potential €34 Million Value
The transfer has been structured as a one-year loan deal with an option for a permanent move at the end of the season. Atletico Madrid will pay an initial €1 million loan fee, which could rise to €2 million depending on performance-related bonuses. Should the Spanish club decide to make the move permanent, they will need to trigger a €32 million purchase clause, potentially bringing the total package to €34 million.
From Juventus’ perspective, this deal represents significant financial gain. The club initially acquired Gonzalez from Fiorentina in the summer of 2024 for a base fee of €8 million. His contract included an option to buy for €25 million plus €5 million in bonuses, as well as an additional €3.1 million in related expenses. Now, just a year later, the Bianconeri are in line to secure a handsome profit from his exit.
Gonzalez’s One-Year Contribution at Juventus
Although his time in Turin was brief, Gonzalez made a noticeable contribution to Massimiliano Allegri’s side. In total, the 27-year-old winger featured in 38 matches across all competitions, recording five goals and four assists.
That output placed him among just eight Juventus players last season who managed to reach at least four goals and four assists — a testament to his consistency and attacking value.
In an official statement, Juventus expressed their gratitude:
“Since arriving in the summer of 2024, Nico Gonzalez has shown full dedication and professionalism. He contributed to both domestic and European campaigns. The club thanks him for his efforts and wishes him the best of luck in the next chapter of his career.”
A New Chapter for Juventus
The departure of Gonzalez also creates space for Juventus’ new attacking reinforcements. On transfer deadline day, the Bianconeri announced the arrivals of Edon Zhegrova and Loïs Openda, two dynamic forwards expected to add versatility and depth to Igor Tudor’s long-term project.
For Juventus, the Gonzalez transfer can be seen as a strategic move: not only do they secure a financial boost, but they also accelerate the squad’s regeneration process by bringing in younger, fresh attacking options.
The Challenge at Atletico Madrid
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid view Gonzalez as an important addition to Diego Simeone’s squad, particularly in the wide attacking areas. Known for his high work rate, pace, and creativity, Gonzalez is expected to provide Simeone with more tactical flexibility in a system built on intensity and discipline.
If Gonzalez adapts quickly to the demands of La Liga and Simeone’s pressing style, it is highly likely that Atletico will activate the permanent purchase clause at the end of the season.
A Fresh Start in Spain
For Gonzalez himself, the move represents a chance to reinvent his career after a season in Serie A. Having previously excelled at Fiorentina and shown flashes of quality at Juventus, the Argentine winger now has the opportunity to showcase his talent on one of the biggest stages in world football — La Liga.
This transfer not only opens a new chapter in Gonzalez’s journey but also promises an exciting storyline for Atletico Madrid fans eager to see how he adapts to Spanish football.
