Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has heaped praise on Bryan Mbeumo following the Cameroonian forward’s outstanding performances in the Red Devils’ recent winning streak.
Rooney described Mbeumo as “Manchester United’s best signing of the season”, crediting the 26-year-old’s consistency and ability to make a huge impact under manager Ruben Amorim.
Since joining from Brentford last summer, Mbeumo has quickly won over the Old Trafford faithful. His decisive goal in the thrilling 3–2 win over Burnley in late August marked the beginning of an impressive run of form.
Mbeumo continued his rise by scoring the opener in United’s 2–1 victory at Anfield on October 19 — their first away win against Liverpool since 2016 — before netting twice in a 4–2 win over Brighton last weekend.
Those performances have not only lifted United back into the Premier League’s top four but also rejuvenated the team’s confidence after a rocky start to the season. “Mbeumo has been consistent, and that’s what matters most,” Rooney said on The Wayne Rooney Show.
Confidence Breeds Goals
Rooney believes Mbeumo’s success comes from his sharp positioning and disciplined mindset.
“If you keep getting yourself into the right positions and take your chances, the goals will come naturally,” Rooney explained. “When a striker enjoys the process, confidence follows — and right now, Mbeumo’s confidence is sky-high. Hopefully, he keeps that going, because he’s clearly United’s best signing this season.”
As United’s all-time top scorer, Rooney knows what it takes to succeed in front of goal. He noted that Mbeumo strikes a perfect balance between work rate and attacking instinct — a rare blend that has added a new dimension to Amorim’s high-tempo, dynamic system.
Alongside Matheus Cunha and Senne Lammens, Mbeumo has become part of a new generation of players injecting fresh energy into the squad after a difficult start to the campaign.
Amorim: “Mbeumo Is a Machine, Hard to Stop”
Head coach Ruben Amorim has also been full of praise for the Cameroonian forward. Speaking after the Brighton match, Amorim said:
“He’s a machine. His work rate is incredible, and he’s becoming more dangerous when we build up play in the final third. His chemistry with Amad is fantastic — they’re fast, agile, and very hard to defend against.”
Amorim also revealed that Mbeumo’s signing was the result of a well-coordinated effort by the club’s recruitment team.
“My role was simply to explain what I needed from him, but the club did the heavy lifting. When we realized that Mbeumo truly wanted to join Manchester United, we did everything possible to make it happen.”
United’s Momentum Builds Ahead of Forest Clash
Manchester United are now eyeing their fourth straight Premier League victory as they prepare to face Nottingham Forest away on Saturday.
Forest, who recently suffered a 0–2 defeat to Bournemouth in Sean Dyche’s first match in charge, will be eager to respond. However, with Mbeumo in top form and Amorim’s tactics clicking into place, United enter the fixture full of confidence.
After the Forest match, the Red Devils will take on Tottenham on November 8 before heading into the international break — with fans hoping that Bryan Mbeumo’s red-hot form continues to fuel their resurgence.
