Luciano Spalletti has officially embarked on a new chapter in his managerial career as the head coach of Juventus. Following his appointment to replace Igor Tudor, Spalletti immediately set out to assemble a technical staff capable of revitalizing the Bianconeri and restoring the club’s competitiveness in Serie A 2025/2026.

Among the key figures joining him is Giovanni Martusciello, the former right-hand man of Maurizio Sarri at Juventus, a name familiar to Italian football fans for his tactical acumen and extensive Serie A experience.

Spalletti’s Short-Term Vision and Staff Restructuring

Spalletti signed a short-term contract lasting until the end of the 2025/26 season. Upon arriving at the Juventus training center in Continassa on Thursday (30/10), he immediately began organizing his coaching staff, bringing in trusted collaborators to ensure a smooth transition.

Alongside Marco Domenichini, Spalletti’s loyal assistant of over three decades, Martusciello was added to the team as a senior technical collaborator. The decision drew attention from fans and pundits alike, as Martusciello’s record in Serie A demonstrates his ability to influence team strategy at the highest level.

Giovanni Martusciello: From Sarri’s Right-Hand to Juventus Rebuild

At 54 years old, Martusciello is no stranger to Juventus supporters. He served as Maurizio Sarri’s assistant during the 2019/2020 season, the final campaign in which Sarri led Juventus to the Scudetto.

Beyond Turin, Martusciello also worked closely with Sarri at Empoli and Lazio, earning a reputation as a highly tactical and intelligent coach. His experience across multiple top-tier clubs makes him a valuable asset for Spalletti in restructuring Juventus’ tactical foundation, which suffered under Tudor.

Most recently, Martusciello managed Salernitana on an interim basis in the second half of 2024 before accepting the offer to return to Juventus, signaling his commitment to help rebuild one of Italy’s most iconic clubs.

A Reunion Built on Years of Collaboration

Martusciello is no stranger to Spalletti’s coaching philosophy. Their professional relationship dates back to the 1990s, when Martusciello was a player under Spalletti at Empoli.

The collaboration continued during Spalletti’s tenure at Inter Milan (2017–2019), where Martusciello became part of the Nerazzurri technical staff. Their long-standing partnership, built on mutual trust and tactical understanding, sets a strong foundation for their joint mission at Juventus.

The Challenge Ahead: Rebuilding Juventus

Now reunited in Turin, Spalletti and Martusciello face the daunting task of revitalizing Juventus after a turbulent period under Tudor. Their goal is not only to stabilize results in Serie A but also to restore the club’s identity and competitive edge on both domestic and European fronts.

With a combination of Spalletti’s tactical expertise and Martusciello’s experience as a former Sarri collaborator, Juventus fans can expect a structured approach aimed at rebuilding the Bianconeri from the ground up.
