Chris Paul remains without a team as the NBA 2025-2026 season reaches its halfway point. Nearly six weeks have passed since the Los Angeles Clippers unilaterally terminated his contract, leaving the veteran point guard in an unexpected limbo. Paul, widely known as “The Point God”, has openly expressed that he does not want his career to end this way.
A Storied Career Faces a Surprising Twist
This season marks Paul’s 21st year in the NBA, and he has repeatedly stated that it would be his final campaign. After a storied career, he envisioned finishing with the Clippers, the team where he spent the longest stretch of his career.
However, Paul’s second stint with the Clippers did not unfold as he hoped. Reports suggest that he was dissatisfied with the team’s performance this season and became increasingly vocal about his frustrations. This tension reportedly strained his relationship with Clippers’ head coach Tyronn Lue.
According to insiders, Paul and Lue experienced a significant falling out, resulting in minimal communication between the two. The situation escalated during an away game against Atlanta on December 3, when the Clippers made the decisive move to send Paul home, effectively ending his tenure with the team.
Staying Ready Amid Uncertainty
In a recent appearance on “Good Sports with Kevin Hart & Kenan Thompson”, Paul admitted he still does not know where he will play next. Despite the uncertainty, he emphasized that he is staying in peak condition in case a new opportunity arises.
“I work out and train every single day. Honestly, with everything that has happened and with the deep love I have for this game, I just don’t want it to end like this,” Paul explained.
Paul became eligible for a trade starting December 15, but potential moves have yet to materialize. Rumors linking him to the Charlotte Hornets, where he previously played, have been denied, ruling out a reunion with the franchise.
While the Clippers have publicly stated they are willing to collaborate with Paul to find a new team, more than a month after their separation, no concrete developments have emerged.
“I’ve been enjoying this time off. I’ve had the chance to watch my kids play, but I still don’t know what the next chapter holds. I don’t know which team I’ll represent at the end of my career,” Paul reflected.
A Legendary Career
Over 21 seasons, Chris Paul has appeared in 1,370 NBA games across seven different teams. At 40 years old, he maintains impressive career averages of 16.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 9.2 assists per game. Paul ranks second all-time in both assists and steals, trailing only John Stockton in NBA history.
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on where Paul’s journey will continue. With his experience, leadership, and skill set, any team acquiring him could gain a crucial veteran presence capable of mentoring younger players and impacting the game at a high level.
