Arsenal are widely expected to capitalize on their opportunity to win the Premier League this season, with football legend Ally McCoist expressing confidence in The Gunners’ title ambitions.
Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast, McCoist highlighted Arsenal’s current squad as possibly the strongest in the club’s history in the English top flight. His comments underline a growing belief that Arsenal will not miss their chance to claim the Premier League crown after decades of waiting.
McCoist Backs Arsenal Amid Competitive Pressure
McCoist acknowledged the challenges posed by Manchester City, particularly their impressive results at Anfield. “No, I don’t think they will fail again. I mean, City got some excellent results, especially at Anfield. But I’m not sure City played as well as it seemed,” he said.
“Of course, that was a brilliant result against Liverpool. However, looking closely, Liverpool actually performed better in the second half than they have in a long time,” McCoist added.
He emphasized that despite City picking up crucial three points, Arsenal remain well-positioned to continue their title challenge. “The main thing, as we know, is three points. And yes, City got them, but I still feel Arsenal will be fine,” he said.
Regarding Arsenal’s recent draw against Brentford, McCoist remained optimistic. “In the bigger picture, is a draw at Brentford, who are flying at the moment, a bad result? Not really,” he noted.
Arsenal’s Recent Form
Arsenal have won only two of their last six Premier League games, including a 1-1 draw at Brentford. A win in that match could have extended their lead over Manchester City to six points. Nevertheless, City managed to keep their hopes alive with a 2-1 victory over Liverpool.
Despite minor stutters in form, Arsenal’s resilience and squad depth continue to stand out as key factors in their title push.
Arguably the Best Squad in English Football History
Since the Premier League’s inception in 1992, many clubs have fielded remarkable teams. Manchester United had golden generations in 1999 and 2008, while Manchester City dominated from 2021 to 2024.
However, McCoist believes that Arsenal’s 2025/2026 squad is on a different level altogether. “I’ve said it before — this might be the best squad I’ve ever seen in English football,” he commented.
“I’m not always claiming it’s the greatest team, that’s debatable, but in terms of the 22 players they have, can you recall a stronger squad anywhere?” he added.
Manager Mikel Arteta has been able to rotate key players effectively. During the Brentford game, substitutes like Bukayo Saka, Martin Ødegaard, and Gabriel Martinelli made significant impacts. Other influential names such as William Saliba, Kai Havertz, and Mikel Merino are also available to deliver crucial performances when fully fit.
Pundit Dean Saunders also praised Arsenal’s squad depth. “I think they have such squad depth that if a key player gets injured, the replacement coming on could be better than the player on the pitch,” Saunders explained.
Key Fixtures Ahead for The Gunners
Arsenal now shift focus to the fourth round of the FA Cup, where they will face Wigan Athletic. After that, the Premier League resumes with an away match at Wolverhampton Wanderers, followed by the high-profile North London Derby against Tottenham Hotspur.
Another tough test awaits on March 1 against Chelsea, before meeting Manchester City once more in the Carabao Cup final later that month.
With what is considered one of the deepest and most talented squads in English football history and unwavering confidence from pundits, Arsenal appear well-positioned to secure the Premier League trophy by May. Their combination of experienced leadership, dynamic talent, and tactical flexibility under Arteta provides them with the tools needed to finish the season on top.
Arsenal’s Championship Ambition
Arsenal’s ambition goes beyond simply competing; they aim to dominate the league and assert themselves as one of the top clubs in Europe once again. By effectively utilizing their squad, managing player fitness, and maintaining focus during crucial fixtures, they are ready to turn opportunity into triumph.
Fans, pundits, and former players alike are watching closely as The Gunners march toward potentially historic success. If they can maintain their form, continue their strategic gameplay, and avoid major setbacks, Arsenal could finally lift the Premier League trophy, ending years of anticipation and securing their place among England’s football elite.
