Inter Milan are on the verge of completing a remarkable domestic double after securing their 21st Serie A title earlier this season. The Nerazzurri now shift their attention to the Coppa Italia final, where they will face Lazio in a highly anticipated showdown on Wednesday night in Rome.
As excitement builds ahead of the decisive clash, Inter head coach Cristian Chivu has adopted a calm and composed approach. Rather than increasing pressure on his squad, the former Inter defender wants his players to embrace the occasion and enjoy the experience of competing for another major trophy.
Chivu believes his team has already achieved something special this season and insists that the outcome of the final will not change his overall assessment of Inter’s campaign.
Cristian Chivu Praises Inter’s Mentality Ahead of Coppa Italia Final
Since taking over from Simone Inzaghi, Cristian Chivu has guided Inter Milan through an impressive season filled with consistency, resilience, and strong performances in key matches.
Speaking during the pre-match press conference, Chivu explained that he already feels satisfied with the progress the team has made under his leadership.
“It doesn’t change anything for me,” Chivu said.
“I am at a club that matches my ambitions, a club that always wants to remain competitive.”
The Romanian coach also acknowledged the intense expectations that come with managing one of Italy’s biggest clubs. However, he stressed the importance of keeping the players emotionally balanced before such a crucial match.
“I understand what it means to be part of a club like Inter, the history surrounding it, and also the negativity that can sometimes appear. I try to calm those situations from a human perspective,” he added.
Lazio Seeking Revenge After Heavy Serie A Defeat
The Coppa Italia final arrives only days after Inter Milan convincingly defeated Lazio 3-0 at the Stadio Olimpico in Serie A action.
Despite that dominant victory, Chivu warned his players not to underestimate Lazio in a completely different competition and setting. According to the Inter boss, facing the same opponent twice in a short period always brings additional challenges.
“This is a different game entirely,” Chivu explained.
“There is always danger when you play the same team again so quickly. We need humility and the right mentality.”
Lazio are expected to enter the final with extra motivation after suffering a disappointing home defeat last weekend. Maurizio Sarri’s side will likely view the final as the perfect opportunity for redemption in front of their supporters.
Marcus Thuram Receives Positive Fitness Update
Inter Milan also received encouraging news regarding the condition of striker Marcus Thuram ahead of the final.
The French forward had been considered doubtful due to fitness concerns, but Chivu confirmed that Thuram returned to training with the squad and remains in contention to feature against Lazio.
“Thuram is improving. He trained with us today,” Chivu revealed.
“We still have another day to evaluate him properly.”
Thuram’s potential availability would provide a major boost for Inter’s attacking options, especially considering his strong partnership with captain Lautaro Martinez throughout the season.
Chivu Wants Inter Players to Play With Joy and Confidence
Interestingly, while Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri has focused heavily on tactical preparation and mental concentration, Chivu has chosen a more relaxed motivational approach for his team.
The Inter manager wants his players to step onto the pitch with smiles on their faces and enjoy the pressure that comes with competing in another major final.
For Chivu, maintaining enthusiasm and emotional freedom is essential if Inter are to perform at their best on the biggest stage.
“Don’t become obsessed,” Chivu told reporters.
“We deserve everything we have achieved so far.”
“Stay calm, smile, go onto the pitch with the desire to enjoy yourselves, without losing enthusiasm or humility.”
The former defender believes Inter’s greatest strength lies in the unity and mentality within the dressing room. Throughout the season, he has worked hard to protect the squad from external negativity and keep the players focused on their shared goals.
Inter Milan Chasing Another Memorable Trophy
Since the beginning of preseason preparations in the United States, Chivu said he quickly recognized the strong character and ambition inside the squad.
The coach praised Lautaro Martinez and his teammates for the pride they continue to show every time they wear the famous Nerazzurri shirt.
According to Chivu, building emotional stability and togetherness inside the dressing room has been one of his biggest priorities since arriving at the club.
“I am working with a group of incredible people, real people who show pride and know how to stay united,” he concluded.
With the Serie A title already secured, Inter Milan now have the opportunity to complete an unforgettable season by lifting the Coppa Italia trophy. However, Chivu’s message remains clear — success will come naturally if the players stay relaxed, united, and continue enjoying their football.
