Manchester United are heading into what could be one of the most explosive summer transfer windows in recent years. What started as internal planning has now evolved into a full-scale squad rebuild, with reports suggesting that up to 10 players could be shown the door in a sweeping Old Trafford overhaul.

With INEOS now in control of football operations, the message is clear: no status is guaranteed, and a new era is being shaped from the ground up.

INEOS Takes Charge as United Prepare for Big Changes

The restructuring at Manchester United is no longer just speculation. According to The Sun, senior figures at the club are actively holding internal discussions about a potential mass exodus this summer.

The influence of INEOS is already visible. Since gaining operational control, the group has pushed for more decisive decision-making, particularly around squad efficiency and long-term sustainability.

This summer is expected to mark the start of a new sporting project, with a permanent managerial appointment also on the horizon. While Michael Carrick has impressed during his interim spell and gained internal support, the club has yet to make a final decision on the next permanent head coach.

Several candidates remain under consideration as United attempt to balance stability with a fresh direction.

Squad Rebuild at the Core of Manchester United’s Strategy

Beyond managerial uncertainty, the focus is firmly on reshaping the squad.

Recruitment plans are already being mapped out, with midfield reinforcement a top priority. Two names are emerging as key targets: Elliot Anderson and Carlos Baleba, both seen as long-term solutions in central areas.

In attack, Manchester United are also exploring options, with Morgan Rogers among the players being monitored closely.

However, before new arrivals can be fully prioritized, significant player departures are expected to clear space and balance finances.

Big Names on the Exit List: Onana and Rashford Included

Perhaps the most eye-catching development is the list of players reportedly available for transfer.

Andre Onana and Marcus Rashford are among the headline names. Both are currently away from Old Trafford on loan spells—Onana at Trabzonspor and Rashford at Barcelona.

Trabzonspor are reportedly interested in making Onana’s move permanent, while Barcelona hold an option to sign Rashford for around £26 million. However, reports suggest their enthusiasm for the deal has cooled in recent months.

Despite their reputations, neither player appears to be central to the club’s long-term vision under the new structure.

Zirkzee and Ugarte Face Uncertain Futures

Joshua Zirkzee and Manuel Ugarte are also part of the planned reshuffle, though their situations differ slightly.

Both players have struggled to make a consistent impact this season, leading to questions about their fit within the squad.

INEOS is reportedly keen to offload Zirkzee for around £22 million, partly to avoid potential financial losses under Premier League profit and sustainability rules. Another option being explored is a loan deal with an obligation to buy, similar to structured transfer models used elsewhere in European football.

Ugarte, meanwhile, has been valued at approximately £25 million. However, his inconsistent performances over the past two seasons have made it difficult for United to attract serious interest at that price point.

More Departures Expected Across the Squad

The clear-out is not limited to high-profile names.

Goalkeeper Altay Bayindir is expected to join Besiktas, while academy midfielder Toby Collyer could also leave permanently. Collyer is currently on loan at Hull City, with his contract set to expire next year.

Meanwhile, experienced midfielder Casemiro, winger Jadon Sancho, and defender Tyrell Malacia are all expected to be made available for transfer this summer.

These potential exits reflect a broader shift in strategy—moving away from high-cost, high-maintenance contracts toward a more balanced and sustainable squad model.

Tyler Fredricson’s Future Also in Doubt

Young defender Tyler Fredricson is another name whose future remains uncertain.

The academy graduate made his senior debut under Ruben Amorim last season but has struggled to secure regular first-team opportunities since then. A loan spell or permanent departure now appears increasingly likely.

Celtic had previously been linked with the player during the January window, and it remains to be seen whether the Scottish club will revisit their interest this summer.

A Squad Transformation in Motion

If these reports prove accurate, Manchester United could look almost unrecognizable by the start of the 2026/2027 season.

A potential double-digit player exit scenario signals not just a transfer window—but a full reset. INEOS appears determined to reshape the squad identity, improve recruitment efficiency, and build a team capable of competing consistently at the highest level.

While such sweeping changes always carry risk, they also represent opportunity. For Manchester United, this summer could define the direction of the club for years to come.

One thing is certain: the era of gradual change at Old Trafford is over. A far more aggressive rebuild has officially begun.
