Fiorentina are reportedly ready to consider offers for David De Gea as they review their goalkeeping options. The former Manchester United goalkeeper faces fresh questions about his future after another difficult start to the Serie A season.

According to FirenzeViola, Fiorentina are assessing alternatives as they look for ways to improve their results. De Gea has come under scrutiny for the second season in a row, despite continuing to receive public support from head coach Paolo Vanoli.

The latest concern follows Fiorentina’s 2-1 defeat to Inter Milan at San Siro. The result left La Viola 18th in the Serie A table, with just four points from eight matches.

Although De Gea produced some impressive saves against Inter, his performance could not prevent another disappointing result. The club must now decide whether to keep its experienced captain or consider a change between the posts.

Several goalkeepers have reportedly entered the discussion, including young Fiorentina player Tommaso Martinelli and River Plate’s Santiago Beltran.

Paolo Vanoli Continues to Back David De Gea

Despite the speculation, Vanoli has made his support for De Gea clear.

Before the match against Inter Milan, the Fiorentina manager firmly defended his captain and dismissed questions about the goalkeeper’s position in the team.

“He is my captain, period. De Gea is not up for debate,” Vanoli said.

De Gea then delivered a strong performance against Inter, making important saves to keep Fiorentina in the contest.

However, Marcus Thuram and Piotr Zielinski scored in stoppage time to give Inter a 2-1 victory. The late goals left Fiorentina empty-handed despite the goalkeeper’s efforts.

The result increased the pressure on Vanoli and his players. With the club struggling near the bottom of the table, the management must consider every possible way to improve the team.

Vanoli’s public backing remains important for De Gea. However, the club could still review its transfer plans if the management believes another goalkeeper would better suit its long-term needs.

For now, there is no confirmed decision to sell the former Manchester United star.

Tommaso Martinelli Could Return to Fiorentina

One option Fiorentina could consider is bringing Tommaso Martinelli back from his loan spell at Avellino.

The 20-year-old goalkeeper currently plays for the Serie B club. His loan agreement reportedly includes an option for Avellino to make the move permanent.

However, Fiorentina also hold a counter-clause that could allow them to bring Martinelli back if sporting director Fabio Paratici decides to activate it.

That arrangement could give Fiorentina an alternative without requiring a major transfer fee for an entirely new goalkeeper.

Martinelli also offers the club a potential long-term option. At just 20, he could develop further within Fiorentina’s existing system.

However, promoting a young goalkeeper to the first team would carry risks. Fiorentina are fighting to improve their league position, and the pressure on their defence remains high.

The club would need to decide whether Martinelli is ready to handle the demands of Serie A football or whether he would benefit from more experience.

His possible return could depend on Fiorentina’s assessment of De Gea and the other goalkeepers available in the transfer market.

Santiago Beltran Emerges as a Transfer Target

Fiorentina are also reportedly monitoring Santiago Beltran, a 22-year-old goalkeeper at River Plate.

According to FirenzeViola, Beltran is among the players Paratici has considered while reviewing the club’s goalkeeping options.

However, signing the Argentine would not be straightforward.

Beltran’s contract with River Plate runs until December 2027. The club reportedly values him at around €20 million, which would make the transfer a significant investment for Fiorentina.

Competition could also complicate the deal. Inter Milan and several clubs from the Premier League and Bundesliga have reportedly shown interest in the goalkeeper.

If Fiorentina decide to pursue Beltran, they may need to compete with clubs that have greater financial resources.

The reported asking price is another important consideration. Fiorentina must weigh the cost of a new goalkeeper against other areas of the squad that may also need strengthening.

Beltran could offer a long-term solution, but the club would need to assess his suitability for Serie A and determine whether the investment makes sense.

At this stage, his name remains part of the reported transfer discussion rather than a confirmed signing target.

Christos Mandas Was Previously Considered

Beltran is not the first goalkeeper Fiorentina have explored as a possible addition.

The club reportedly approached Christos Mandas, who plays for Lazio, during the summer transfer window. However, those discussions did not lead to an agreement.

Fiorentina are now reviewing their options again as uncertainty surrounds De Gea’s future.

The reported interest in Martinelli, Beltran and Mandas highlights three different approaches the club could take.

  • Martinelli: Recall a young goalkeeper who already belongs to Fiorentina.

  • Beltran: Invest in a promising goalkeeper from River Plate, potentially at a high transfer cost.

  • Mandas: Revisit an option the club previously explored.

Each route comes with different financial and sporting considerations.

A decision will depend on the club’s assessment of its current squad, its available budget and the results it needs to achieve in Serie A.

What Happens Next for David De Gea?

De Gea’s future at Fiorentina remains uncertain, but the reported interest in other goalkeepers does not mean his departure is inevitable.

His performance against Inter showed that he can still make important contributions. Nevertheless, Fiorentina’s position in the standings has increased the pressure on the entire squad.

The club must decide whether its current goalkeeping setup offers the best chance of recovery or whether a change would provide greater stability.

Vanoli’s support may help De Gea retain his place in the short term. However, the final decision could also depend on the club’s transfer strategy and any offers it receives.

For Fiorentina, the priority is clear: improve results and move away from the relegation zone.

Whether that means keeping De Gea, recalling Martinelli or pursuing another goalkeeper remains to be seen. Until the club makes an official announcement, reports of a possible sale should be treated as speculation.
