Alexander Isak is beginning to rediscover his best form at Liverpool, and former scout Bryan King believes the Reds have a clear way to make the Swedish striker even more dangerous.
The 27-year-old has made an impressive start to the Premier League season, scoring four goals in five appearances. He also found the net once for Sweden during the latest international break.
However, King believes Liverpool can get even more from Isak by making better use of his biggest attacking weapon: his pace.
The former Tottenham, Everton and Aston Villa scout has urged Liverpool to provide Isak with more passes into space behind the opposition defence and more service inside the penalty area.
Alexander Isak’s Pace Could Be Liverpool’s Biggest Weapon
Isak has several qualities that make him a difficult striker to defend against, but King believes his speed should be at the centre of Liverpool attacking approach.
The Swedish forward can use his movement to stretch defensive lines and create opportunities when there is space behind the opposition.
According to King, Liverpool need to make sure Isak receives the type of service that allows him to attack those spaces.
“Isak’s main advantage is his speed and that’s what he needs to get back,” King told Football Insider.
The former scout also stressed that Isak’s effectiveness depends heavily on the quality of service around him.
“It all depends on the service he gets. Players like him need balls played into space. He also needs balls into the penalty area,” King added.
The message is relatively straightforward. Rather than expecting Isak to constantly create chances on his own, Liverpool should create situations where his movement and acceleration can become decisive.
Liverpool Need to Create More Opportunities for Isak
Isak’s numbers already show that he can be highly productive when given the right opportunities.
Four Premier League goals in five matches represent a strong start, especially considering that his first season at Liverpool was disrupted by injuries and inconsistent performances.
The challenge now is maintaining that momentum.
Isak has returned to Liverpool after suffering a minor injury while on international duty with Sweden. He will be hoping to recover in time to start when Liverpool face Manchester City after the international break.
If fit, the match could provide an intriguing individual battle between Isak and Erling Haaland.
Both strikers possess the ability to decide major Premier League matches, but King believes Liverpool should look at how Norway creates opportunities for Haaland and consider applying a similar approach with Isak.
That does not mean Liverpool need to copy Norway’s entire tactical setup. Instead, the key lesson is the importance of consistently putting a dangerous striker in positions where he can attack the goal.
Haaland Example Shows What Liverpool Can Do
Haaland provides an obvious example of how a striker can benefit from regular service.
The Manchester City forward scored again on Monday, September 28, 2026, extending his scoring run to seven consecutive matches for club and country.
Although Norway eventually lost 2-1 to Portugal in the second matchday of their Nations League Group D campaign, Haaland still received eight shooting opportunities and scored one goal from 2.4 expected goals on target (xGOT).
For King, that type of chance creation is something Liverpool should aim to provide for Isak.
The comparison is particularly interesting because both players are capable of exploiting defensive gaps through their movement and finishing.
Liverpool’s objective should therefore be clear:
- Give Isak more passes into open space.
- Provide consistent service into the penalty area.
- Use his pace to stretch defensive lines.
- Create situations where he can attack the goal rather than constantly dropping deep.
- Build confidence by allowing him to become a regular threat in the final third.
If Liverpool can consistently create those situations, Isak could become even more influential.
Isak Still Holds Premier League Transfer Record
There is also significant expectation surrounding Isak because he remains the most expensive player in Premier League transfer history.
Liverpool paid £125 million to sign him in the summer of 2025, making the Swedish forward a major investment for the club.
His first campaign at Liverpool did not completely match those expectations, with injuries and inconsistent performances affecting his rhythm.
This season, however, there are signs that Isak is beginning to find greater consistency.
His four goals in five Premier League matches suggest that he is becoming more comfortable and more influential in Liverpool’s attack.
The next step is turning that promising start into a sustained run of performances.
Alexander Isak Determined to Contribute More
Isak himself appears aware that there is still another level he can reach.
Earlier this month, he admitted that there have been matches when he felt he should have contributed more to Liverpool’s performance.
“There are a lot of games where I feel I should have contributed more and been more involved. That’s normal,” Isak said.
The striker explained that involvement can vary from match to match, but he wants to improve in games where he has struggled to make an impact.
“You obviously want to do it in every game. But in some games you are involved in most of the game, while in other games less. The games where I haven’t been involved much are the ones I want to change,” he added.
That mindset could be important as Liverpool look to get the best out of their record signing.
Isak also believes his physical condition has improved after spending a longer period healthy and building consistency.
“I feel good, including physically. I’ve been healthy for quite a while and I’m starting to find consistency. That is the foundation for me to play good football,” he said.
Liverpool Could Have a More Dangerous Isak
The early signs suggest that Alexander Isak is moving in the right direction at Liverpool.
His goalscoring numbers are improving, his fitness is becoming more stable and he appears determined to have a bigger influence on matches.
Now, Liverpool have an opportunity to maximize those qualities.
If King’s assessment is correct, the key could be relatively simple: give Isak the space and service he needs to use his pace.
With Manchester City waiting after the international break, Liverpool could soon discover just how dangerous Isak can become when the team’s attacking approach allows him to play to his greatest strengths.
