Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has finally spoken up about the criticism he once received from Sean Dyche, now the manager of Nottingham Forest. Rather than holding a grudge, Amorim insists he fully understands Dyche’s remarks and considers them a natural part of football discourse.

During the 2024/2025 Premier League season, Dyche—who was working as a pundit on a football program in England—openly criticized Amorim’s tactical setup at Manchester United. According to Dyche, Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation wasn’t producing the desired results and looked unsuited to United’s playing style.

At that time, Dyche even suggested that Amorim should “stop being stubborn” and switch to a more traditional 4-4-2 system, arguing that it would make Manchester United more effective and consistent in picking up wins.

Now, ahead of United’s away clash against Nottingham Forest, where Dyche will be standing on the opposite bench, the old comments have resurfaced. The media couldn’t resist asking Amorim what he thought about Dyche’s earlier critique.

“He Might Have Been Right”

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Ruben Amorim admitted that there could be some truth in Dyche’s opinion. However, the Portuguese tactician emphasized that his philosophy is built for long-term development, not just short-term results.

“Honestly, maybe he was right. Maybe if we had switched to a 4-4-2, we could have earned a few more wins,” Amorim said with a smile. “But from day one, I’ve had a clear vision of how I want this team to play. I believe in our system, and it takes time for players to fully adapt to it.”

He continued, “Building a strong identity doesn’t happen overnight. I’d rather be patient and stay true to our principles than chase short-term success by changing everything after a few setbacks.”

“Dyche Was Just Doing His Job”

Amorim made it clear that he harbored no resentment toward Dyche. He acknowledged that as a television pundit at the time, Dyche was simply fulfilling his professional duty to offer strong and engaging opinions.

“I wasn’t offended at all,” Amorim clarified. “Sean was just doing his job. When you’re on TV as a pundit, people expect you to say something bold or interesting. If you only give neutral opinions, nobody will pay attention to your analysis.”

Amorim even praised Dyche for his passion and honesty, adding, “I respect him a lot, both as a coach and as a person. Now that he’s managing Nottingham Forest, I’m sure it’s going to be an exciting match.”

Maintaining Momentum

Manchester United currently enjoy a strong run of form, having secured three consecutive Premier League victories. The Red Devils seem to be rediscovering their rhythm under Amorim, with improved attacking fluidity and better defensive organization.

Amorim now hopes his players can extend that winning streak when they face Nottingham Forest at The City Ground.

“We’re in a good moment right now,” the United boss said confidently. “The players have shown great mentality and unity. What matters most is consistency. We want to keep the momentum going and keep pushing toward the top of the table.”

With Dyche now in charge of Forest, the upcoming match promises to be more than just a tactical battle—it’s also a reunion between two coaches who once shared contrasting football philosophies but mutual respect.
