Legendary Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has begun planning the next chapter of his life as his illustrious playing career winds down, most recently with Inter Miami in Major League Soccer (MLS).
In an exclusive interview with Sport, the 38-year-old Uruguayan forward revealed that he and his family intend to return and settle in Barcelona once his American adventure concludes. Despite his advancing age, Suarez continues to demonstrate his sharp striking prowess on the field. Last season, he contributed 10 goals and 10 assists in 30 appearances for Inter Miami, sharing the pitch with longtime friend and former Barcelona teammate, Lionel Messi.
However, as the curtain falls on his contract in Miami, many fans and pundits have been speculating: what’s next for Luis Suarez?
Barcelona: A Home That Never Fades
During the interview, Suarez made it clear that Barcelona remains the city closest to his heart.
“Yes, I always follow Barcelona, and so do my kids. You never stop being a fan. You never stop admiring the club. You continue to love it, and you always stay in touch with people there.”
He further explained that his family has already chosen Barcelona as their ultimate home after his retirement.
“We still have a home there. Our plan is to return to Barcelona for everything that is good for us. We’ve made sure of this because of everything the city has given us, and because we always feel at home there.”
Sweet Memories and Tough Times at Camp Nou
Suarez also reflected on some of the more challenging periods during his tenure at Camp Nou, particularly when his form dipped.
“Let’s start with the negative: I went through some tough spells. When I didn’t score in away matches, it really bothered me. I was angry at myself.”
The pressure of being Barcelona’s main striker turned every game into a relentless test.
“It became a huge challenge and affected you even if you didn’t want it to. Barcelona demands that you perform every three days, every match.”
The Legacy of “El Pistolero”
Despite the challenges, Luis Suarez remains one of the most iconic forwards in Barcelona’s history.
Over six seasons with the Blaugrana, Suarez amassed 195 goals and 113 assists in 283 appearances, solidifying his status among the club’s all-time top scorers. He was also an integral member of the legendary MSN trio alongside Lionel Messi and Neymar, a partnership that left an indelible mark on world football.
