Liverpool received devastating news amid the euphoria of their FA Cup victory. Manager Arne Slot confirmed that promising young right-back Conor Bradley will miss the remainder of the 2025/2026 season due to a serious knee injury.

The injury occurred during the final moments of last week’s match against Arsenal. Medical examinations confirmed that the Northern Ireland international’s campaign has come to an early end, forcing a major reshuffle in Liverpool’s defensive strategy—particularly concerning minutes for fellow right-back Jeremie Frimpong.

For Slot, losing Bradley is more than a personnel setback—it’s a severe blow to the squad’s structure at a critical point in a congested January schedule.

Slot’s Emotional Response

Arne Slot did not hide his deep empathy for Bradley’s misfortune. The manager revealed that this season was meant to be a defining stage for the young defender, especially in light of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s potential departure.

High expectations had been placed on Bradley, but after a series of hamstring issues earlier in the season, this knee injury delivers another harsh reality.

“First of all, let’s talk about him because with Trent Alexander-Arnold leaving, Conor Bradley had stepped in several times last season and performed very well,” Slot said after Liverpool’s 4-1 win over Barnsley.

Slot emphasized the shared emotional connection and vision he and Bradley had going into the season.

“He felt, and I felt the same, that this would be his moment. He had missed so many games due to hamstring problems, then returned to the squad, improved, stayed fit—and now something like this happens,” Slot added, his voice tinged with frustration.

The psychological impact, according to Slot, outweighs the mere absence from the field.

“In a season where he thought, ‘This has to be my season’—and I thought the same—it’s a huge blow if he only manages to play six, seven, or eight matches. I’m also thinking about Northern Ireland, trying to qualify for the World Cup,” Slot explained.

Frimpong Becomes Key, Szoboszlai an Emergency Option?

Bradley’s injury creates a domino effect for Liverpool’s defense. Slot now has to carefully manage Jeremie Frimpong, who is just returning from consecutive hamstring injuries suffered in August and October.

Pushing Frimpong to play full matches continuously is not ideal, but options are limited.

“This is a huge blow for him, but it’s also a big blow for us because I hope you don’t think I want Dominik Szoboszlai playing as right-back,” Slot said, referring to a potential emergency solution.

With only six healthy defenders available, Slot faces a complex minutes-management challenge across nine matches in January.

“Jeremie Frimpong has to play a lot of minutes and he’s just coming back from three or four months out. By the way, I liked his performance today,” Slot praised.

“But I need to make sure he can play on the weekend, then we travel to Marseille, and then to Bournemouth. I have to manage him properly,” he added.

Maintaining Mental Strength Amid Defensive Crisis

Despite the defensive setback, Liverpool have shown remarkable resilience. Slot praised the squad’s ability to maintain an undefeated streak despite the crisis.

“I have to give huge credit to the fit players—we’ve remained unbeaten in 11 matches,” he said.

Liverpool now prepare to host Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday night, before continuing their Champions League campaign against Marseille.
