Benjamin Sesko confessed he experienced conflicting emotions following Manchester United’s dramatic 1-1 draw against West Ham United in the early hours of the morning. While the Slovenian striker emerged as the hero with a crucial late goal, he admitted the result left him feeling both satisfied and disappointed.
Manchester United Frustrated at London Stadium
Manchester United traveled to the London Stadium to face West Ham in Matchweek 26 of the 2025/2026 Premier League season. The fixture was expected to be competitive, and it certainly lived up to expectations.
Erik ten Hag’s side found themselves locked in a tense battle against a well-organized West Ham team coached by Nuno Espirito Santo. The Hammers executed their defensive game plan effectively, limiting United’s attacking space and frustrating their forwards throughout the first half.
After the break, West Ham capitalized on their momentum. Tomas Soucek broke the deadlock early in the second half, sending the home crowd into celebration and putting Manchester United under serious pressure. The Red Devils struggled to break through West Ham’s disciplined defensive structure and looked in danger of leaving London empty-handed.
Sesko’s Last-Gasp Heroics
Just when it seemed United would suffer a costly defeat, Benjamin Sesko stepped up in stoppage time. The young striker reacted sharply to a dangerous cross delivered by Bryan Mbeumo and calmly converted the opportunity, leveling the score at 1-1.
The late equalizer rescued a valuable point for Manchester United and prevented what could have been a damaging loss in their pursuit of a top-four finish.
“Happy With the Goal, Not With the Result”
Speaking to TNT Sports after the match, Sesko shared his honest reaction to the dramatic encounter. The 22-year-old forward admitted he had mixed feelings about the outcome.
“Honestly, I’m pleased with my finishing today, especially in such an important moment,” Sesko said. “But at the same time, I’m not happy with the draw. We always want to win, and that’s the standard at Manchester United.”
The striker emphasized that while scoring goals is important, team success remains his top priority. For Sesko, rescuing a point is better than losing, but it still falls short of the club’s ambitions.
Fighting Until the Final Whistle
Sesko also praised his teammates for their determination and resilience. He highlighted the squad’s fighting spirit, particularly against a West Ham side that defended compactly and battled intensely for every ball.
“We’re a strong team, and we never stop trying,” he added. “Whether we’re behind or ahead, we keep pushing. Tonight showed that character. Even when it was difficult and they defended very deep, we kept believing.”
The late goal reflected Manchester United’s refusal to surrender, a trait that could prove crucial as the Premier League season enters its decisive phase.
13-Day Break for the Red Devils
Following the draw, Manchester United will now have an extended 13-day break from competitive action. The Red Devils were previously eliminated from the FA Cup, meaning they do not have a fixture scheduled this coming weekend.
Their next match will take place on February 24, when they face Everton in Premier League Matchweek 27. The break offers Ten Hag’s squad valuable recovery time as they aim to regroup and strengthen their push for European qualification.
With Benjamin Sesko rediscovering his scoring touch and the team showing resilience under pressure, Manchester United will hope to return stronger after the short hiatus.
