Benjamin Šeško has opened up about his early months at Manchester United, revealing that one teammate played a particularly important role in helping him settle at Old Trafford. That player, perhaps surprisingly, is Diogo Dalot.

The Slovenian striker has publicly expressed his gratitude to the Portuguese full-back, crediting him as a key support figure during what has been a demanding transition to life in the Premier League.

A High-Profile Arrival and a Slow Start

Šeško arrived at Manchester United in August 2025 following a blockbuster move worth £66.4 million, with an additional £7.3 million in performance-related bonuses. The transfer came with huge expectations, especially given his reputation as one of Europe’s most prolific young forwards.

Across the two seasons prior to his move, Šeško was the top scorer among under-23 players in Europe’s top five leagues. Despite that impressive pedigree, adapting to English football proved challenging in the early weeks.

The 22-year-old had to wait until October 2025 to score his first goal for United, a delay that naturally drew scrutiny. However, patience has paid off.

Goals, Confidence, and Momentum

Šeško is now enjoying his most productive spell in a United shirt, scoring five goals in his last six appearances. His recent contributions include a dramatic late winner against Fulham and an equally important injury-time equalizer away at West Ham United.

That goal at the London Stadium secured a valuable point for United and preserved Michael Carrick’s unbeaten record since taking charge as interim manager.

Reflecting on the moment, Šeško admitted the emotion took time to sink in.
“You only really feel it a few minutes later,” he said, as quoted by Manchester Evening News on Friday, February 13, 2026.
“At the moment it happened, everything was so fast that I didn’t fully realize it. But I was very happy it came off.”

He also highlighted the technical difficulty of the finish.
“It was a tough shot. If my foot position had been slightly different, the ball could have gone anywhere. It was about timing and doing everything right at the right moment.”

Dalot’s Support Behind the Scenes

In an interview with Manchester United’s internal media, Šeško detailed how Diogo Dalot helped him adapt from day one.

“Diogo really helped me from the very beginning,” Šeško explained.
“He tried to support me with everything, because this is a completely different world. I’m very thankful for his help.”

According to Šeško, the two players continue to work closely together on and off the pitch.
“We’re always trying to improve every day and help each other as much as possible.”

Building Routine and Mental Balance

Beyond football, Šeško has focused heavily on establishing a daily routine to stay grounded amid the pressures of life at a global club.

“This is an incredible experience, a new world for me,” he said. “There are a lot of emotions, of course, but everything is exciting. I really enjoy it.”

Even on days off, discipline remains a priority.
“If I have a day off, I still wake up at 7 a.m. Routine is very important.”

Šeško starts his day with coffee and meditation, habits he has maintained for several years. He also prioritizes recovery sessions and gym work whenever possible.

“After that, I enjoy the day—playing basketball, staying active, not sitting in one place for too long,” he added. “I try to read books to gain knowledge, and I also relax on the sofa, which is important too.”

Winning Over Fans the Best Way Possible

When it comes to connecting with Manchester United supporters, Šeško believes there is only one true introduction: goals.

“The best way to introduce yourself is by scoring,” he said. “Without fans, you can’t play football. When they’re on your side, they give you extra energy and motivation.”

He described scoring his first home goal at Old Trafford as a special moment.
“It feels amazing. Everyone is shouting for you—it’s unbelievable. The way we play together, the unity of the team, the players on the bench celebrating—it shows how much we all want to win.”

A Transfer Years in the Making

Interestingly, Manchester United’s interest in Šeško dates back to the summer of 2022, when his representatives even visited the club’s Carrington training ground. At the time, however, the striker chose a move from RB Salzburg to RB Leipzig, prioritizing gradual development.

Now, several years later, Šeško is finally fulfilling United’s long-standing pursuit—this time with goals, confidence, and the quiet support of teammates like Diogo Dalot helping him find his feet at one of football’s most demanding clubs.
