Former Italy international and ex-Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci has shared his thoughts on the future of Inter Milan star Alessandro Bastoni, who has recently been linked with a potential move to Barcelona ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

The Spanish giants are believed to be actively searching for defensive reinforcements, and Bastoni has emerged as one of their top targets due to his technical ability and composure on the ball. Bonucci believes the Inter defender possesses the exact profile needed to succeed in Barcelona’s possession-based system.

Speaking at the Laureus Awards event in Madrid, Bonucci highlighted Bastoni’s unique qualities compared to other defenders of his generation, particularly his ability to contribute effectively in build-up play from the back line.

In addition to discussing Bastoni, Bonucci also shared his views on his former coach Massimiliano Allegri, suggesting that the Italian tactician could be a strong fit for a club of Real Madrid’s stature.

Bastoni’s Playing Style Suits Barcelona’s Philosophy

According to Bonucci, Barcelona’s tactical identity demands defenders who are comfortable in possession and capable of initiating attacks from deep positions. In his view, Bastoni fits this profile exceptionally well.

The Inter Milan centre-back is widely regarded for his passing range, vision, and calmness under pressure, making him one of the most modern defenders in European football today.

However, Bonucci also warned that Barcelona’s high defensive line can be demanding, requiring defenders to maintain exceptional concentration and decision-making throughout matches.

“His understanding of the game and his characteristics fit Barcelona’s style very well. He is a highly technical defender with excellent vision,” Bonucci told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Bastoni is still young, around 27 years old, so he still has six to seven years at the highest level. I hope he can regain the confidence and calmness that made him so successful with Italy and Inter,” he added.

Allegri Compared to Ancelotti in Real Madrid Context

Bonucci also shifted attention to Massimiliano Allegri, drawing interesting comparisons between the former Juventus coach and Carlo Ancelotti, who currently manages Real Madrid.

He believes Allegri’s greatest strength lies in his ability to manage dressing rooms filled with star players, maintaining balance and stability even under intense pressure.

According to Bonucci, this leadership quality is exactly what makes Allegri a strong candidate for elite clubs like Real Madrid, where expectations are always extremely high.

“Because of the way he manages the dressing room and his overall approach to football, Allegri is very similar to Real Madrid’s style. He knows how to take pressure off players so they can perform with maximum freedom,” Bonucci explained.

“I see Allegri as very similar to Ancelotti in terms of team management. If Ancelotti has been successful at Real Madrid, then Allegri also has a very strong chance if he ever takes on a similar challenge,” the former Juventus defender concluded.
