Manchester City have been presented with an interesting opportunity in the transfer market after being offered the chance to sign former Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal.
The 34-year-old is currently without a club, meaning Manchester City could potentially bring him in without paying a transfer fee. According to journalist Graeme Bailey, City are among the clubs to have been offered the opportunity to sign the experienced right-back.
On paper, the proposal is certainly intriguing.
Carvajal has spent much of his career at Real Madrid and played an important role in the club’s success. He also brings years of experience at the highest level of European football.
However, Manchester City must consider whether a 34-year-old defender is actually what they need at this stage.
Dani Carvajal Still Brings Valuable Experience
Despite his age, Carvajal remains one of the most experienced right-backs in European football.
His career at Real Madrid gave him extensive exposure to major competitions and high-pressure matches. That experience could be particularly valuable for a squad competing at the highest level.
Carvajal also contributed during his final season with Real Madrid, making 23 appearances across competitions and providing one assist.

Would Dani Carvajal Make Sense for Manchester City?

However, Manchester City should not force the move simply because Carvajal is available.
If the club believes its existing options are sufficient, there may be little reason to add another player to the position.
For Maresca, the key question is not whether Carvajal is experienced enough. It is whether the veteran defender still has a clearly defined role within Manchester City’s squad.
If that role exists, a free transfer could be an interesting opportunity. If not, City may be better off continuing with the options already available.
