The Euro 2024 qualifiers saw Spain dominate Georgia with a 4-1 victory, while England displayed resilience and determination to secure a late 2-1 comeback win against Slovakia. These matches  also highlighted the unpredictability and excitement of the beautiful game.

Spain’s Dominance Over Georgia

Spain vs. Georgia at the Estadio La Cartuja in Seville was a masterclass in attacking football. Spain controlled the game with their characteristic possession-based style, dictating the tempo and probing Georgia’s defenses with incisive passing and movement.

The first goal came early in the 12th minute, with Alvaro Morata continuing his fine form by finishing a well-orchestrated team move. A precise cross from Jordi Alba found Morata in the box, who calmly slotted the ball past the Georgian goalkeeper. This early breakthrough set the tone for the rest of the match, as Spain relentlessly pressed forward.

Georgia struggled to gain a foothold in the game, and their defense was breached again in the 28th minute when Ferran Torres capitalized on a defensive error to double Spain’s lead. Torres, with his blistering pace and sharp finishing, was a constant threat to the Georgian backline. Spain’s midfield, led by the experienced Sergio Busquets and the dynamic Pedri, controlled the game.

The third goal came just before halftime, with Mikel Oyarzabal converting a penalty after a clumsy challenge in the box. The 3-0 scoreline at halftime effectively ended the contest, allowing Spain to manage the game comfortably in the second half.

Georgia’s and Spain’s Final

Georgia managed to pull one back in the 68th minute through a well-taken strike by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. However, any hopes of an unlikely comeback were swiftly dashed when Spain restored their three-goal cushion just five minutes later. Dani Olmo, coming off the bench, scored with a stunning long-range effort, sealing a comprehensive 4-1 victory for Spain.

England’s Comeback Against Slovakia

England vs. Slovakia at Wembley Stadium was a testament to grit, determination, and the never-say-die spirit that has come to define the Three Lions under Gareth Southgate. Slovakia stunned the home crowd by taking the lead in the 23rd minute. Marek Hamšík, Slovakia’s talismanic captain, found the net with a powerful header from a corner, catching the England defense off guard. The goal sparked celebrations among the Slovakian supporters and set up a tense atmosphere at Wembley.

The introduction of substitutes Jack Grealish and Jude Bellingham injected much-needed creativity and energy into the England attack. Grealish, with his dribbling and vision, began to find pockets of space, while Bellingham’s box-to-box presence added a new dimension to England’s midfield.

The breakthrough finally came in the 81st minute. A slick passing move involving Grealish and Bellingham culminated in a cross that found Harry Kane. The England captain made no mistake, heading the ball into the net to level the score. The relief and jubilation among the England players and fans were palpable. With momentum firmly on their side, England pushed for a winner. Their persistence paid off in the 88th minute when Bellingham, showcasing his immense potential, scored a dramatic winner.
