Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa and Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White have emerged as injury doubts for England’s upcoming Nations League fixtures against Greece and Finland after both players sustained injuries during their respective Premier League matches on Sunday.

Konsa, 26, was forced off the field after just 12 minutes in Villa’s 0-0 draw against Manchester United, suffering what appears to be a hamstring injury. Villa manager Unai Emery addressed the situation, stating, “I think it is a hamstring but I don’t know if it’s big or small,” indicating uncertainty over the severity of the injury. Konsa, who has been a regular starter under Emery, will now be monitored closely as he looks to recover in time for England duty.

Meanwhile, Morgan Gibbs-White, 24, was substituted in the 76th minute of Nottingham Forest’s 1-1 draw at Chelsea. Although the exact nature of his injury hasn’t been disclosed, his substitution raised concerns about his availability for international duty. Gibbs-White has been a key player for Forest this season, playing an influential role in their midfield.

Konsa’s Injury Blow

For Ezri Konsa, this potential hamstring injury comes at a critical point in his international career. The Aston Villa center-back has been in impressive form this season, solidifying his place in Villa’s defense. His inclusion in the England squad reflects his strong performances, and he had earned the trust of Carsley, particularly after his solid display in the September win against Finland.

A hamstring injury, however, can be tricky to recover from, and Villa will be cautious in managing Konsa’s return to avoid aggravating the issue. Hamstring injuries can vary in severity, ranging from minor strains to more serious tears, and the length of recovery time is often unpredictable.

Gibbs-White’s Fitness Doubts

Gibbs-White’s situation is slightly less clear, with the extent of his injury yet to be confirmed. The 24-year-old has been a standout performer for Nottingham Forest this season, contributing significantly to their attacking play. His creativity and energy in midfield have made him a key asset for Forest, and his absence would be a significant blow for both club and country.

Gibbs-White has been steadily making his mark on the international stage, earning more opportunities under Carsley. His involvement in England’s Nations League campaign has been part of his growth as a player, and he will be eager to feature in the upcoming fixtures. However, his substitution in the Chelsea match suggests that his availability for England could be in doubt, depending on the severity of his injury.

Carsley’s Dilemma on England’s Team

The potential absence of both Konsa and Gibbs-White presents a selection dilemma for Lee Carsley. Konsa’s role in defense has been crucial, particularly with his ability to read the game and contribute to England’s build-up play from the back.

In midfield, Gibbs-White’s creativity and work rate have been valuable assets for England. His versatility allows him to operate in different roles across the midfield, and his absence would leave a gap in England’s attacking options. Carsley may need to look to other midfielders such as James Maddison or Eberechi Eze to fill the void if Gibbs-White is unavailable.
