Amad Diallo has been forced to withdraw from the Ivory Coast national team squad due to injury, the country’s football association confirmed on Tuesday. The 22-year-old winger, who had recently joined up with the Ivorian squad after Manchester United’s 0-0 draw against Aston Villa, is the latest in a string of players to pull out of international duty during this break.

Diallo, who was an unused substitute in United’s match against Aston Villa over the weekend, now joins a growing list of absentees from various national teams, including his Manchester United teammates Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, as well as Bayern Munich’s Noussair Mazraoui, all of whom have withdrawn from their respective squads due to injury concerns.

Amad’s Injury Woes Continue

For Amad, this withdrawal marks another setback in what has been a challenging season, as the winger has struggled to break into Manchester United’s first team since recovering from a pre-season injury. The young forward, who spent last season on loan at Sunderland in the Championship, was expected to play a larger role for United this campaign after impressing with his loan performances, but his progress has been hindered by fitness issues.

Amad Diallo picked up an injury during Manchester United’s pre-season tour and had only recently returned to matchday squads, though he has yet to feature prominently under manager Erik ten Hag this season. The decision to withdraw from the Ivory Coast national team was made after medical assessments suggested that further involvement could exacerbate the issue. The Ivory Coast FA released a brief statement confirming his departure from the squad, expressing their disappointment while wishing the player a swift recovery.

“Amad Diallo has been released from the squad due to injury. We hope to see him return to full fitness soon,” the statement read.

Growing Concern at Manchester United

Amad’s injury withdrawal is the latest in a series of setbacks for Manchester United players during this international break. Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, both highly-rated young talents at the club, have also pulled out of international duty due to fitness concerns.

The spate of injuries has raised concerns at Manchester United, where the squad is already thin in key areas. Manager Erik ten Hag has had to juggle numerous fitness issues throughout the season, with players like Raphael Varane, Luke Shaw, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka also spending time on the sidelines.

United have had an inconsistent start to the campaign, and injuries have played a significant part in their struggles. With key players repeatedly missing from the lineup, the team has struggled to find consistency in both performances and results.

Amad’s International Future

Amad Diallo’s withdrawal from Ivory Coast duty is undoubtedly a blow for both player and country. His pace, dribbling ability, and attacking flair have made him a fan favorite, and there were hopes he could continue his development at the international level.

Ivory Coast, who are building towards the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), will now be without one of their most exciting young talents as they continue their preparations for the tournament. Amad has previously expressed his pride in representing his country and will undoubtedly be eager to return to the squad once he recovers.
