Manchester United Manager, Ruben Amorim, Recently Gave Sharp Advice to Young Striker Joshua Zirkzee. Amorim Believes That to Be More Productive in Front of Goal, Zirkzee Needs to Be More Selfish in Seizing Every Scoring Opportunity.
Zirkzee joined the Red Devils from Bologna in the summer of 2024. However, his early journey at Old Trafford has been somewhat slow, especially when it comes to scoring goals, which has been the main point of focus.
Nevertheless, over time, Zirkzee has begun to show significant improvement in his game. Despite this, his goal tally has yet to meet expectations, and this has caught the attention of Amorim.

In a post-match press conference, Ruben Amorim expressed his belief that Zirkzee has grown significantly since the beginning of the season. He has observed many positive aspects in the striker’s play, particularly in his contributions to the team.
“If we look at it as a whole, Zirkzee has shown good development. He is now more aggressive and tougher in defense. His ability to connect the lines has also improved. Overall, I see a lot of potential beginning to materialize,” said Amorim with confidence.
Joshua Zirkzee, Time to Be More Selfish
However, alongside the praise, Amorim reminded Joshua Zirkzee that to become a sharper striker, he needs to be more selfish in front of goal. According to Amorim, sometimes the player sacrifices opportunities in favor of prioritizing team play.
“As a striker, sometimes you need to be more selfish. That is a quality required if you want to score more goals. Although Zirkzee is not a typical pure striker, he needs to take more responsibility when he’s in front of goal,” explained Amorim.
The Portuguese coach also noted that Zirkzee has started to show flexibility in his role. In some matches, he played as the main striker, while in others, he took on a more creative role as a number 10.
Ready for Lyon Challenge
Zirkzee is expected to be Amorim’s main choice in the upcoming important match. Manchester United will travel to Lyon to continue their campaign in the 2024/2025 Europa League. The striker is likely to be a starter in this match, and it will be an opportunity for him to prove his coach’s words.
