The Indonesia U-17 national team pulled off a major upset at the 2025 AFC U-17 Asian Cup by defeating tournament favorites South Korea on Friday night (April 4, 2025). The thrilling win came courtesy of a crucial late goal by Evandra Florasta in the dying minutes of the second half.
In their opening Group C match, Indonesia claimed all three points after being awarded a penalty due to a South Korean defender’s handball inside the box. Evandra, known as the team’s go-to penalty taker, stepped up to take the shot. Although his initial attempt was saved by the keeper, he reacted quickly to slot in the rebound, securing a historic win for Indonesia.
“Overall, I think our team played well, even though there are still things we can improve. We’ll try to push even harder in the next game,” Evandra said after the match.

Evandra expressed a strong sense of optimism following the team’s victory. He believes the result provides a huge morale boost for Indonesia as they aim to progress further in the tournament.
“Winning the first match is always crucial—it gives us a lot of confidence heading into the next game. This win fires up the whole team to give our best performance against Afghanistan. We’re ready for the next challenge and determined to win,” he added to SBOTOP.

Despite being under pressure for most of the match, fortune favored Indonesia. South Korea U-17 National Team had several scoring opportunities, but were denied by the woodwork on multiple occasions.
Evandra admitted that the win came as a surprise to both him and his teammates. “This is incredible,” he told SBOTOP Indonesia. “We’ve been targeting this win for almost two months, but honestly, we didn’t expect to beat South Korea. It’s a really proud moment for us.”
