Michael Carrick, the manager of Manchester United, has voiced his unwavering belief in the team’s ability to rise from its current struggles in the 2026/2027 season. The English coach acknowledges the challenges his squad faces, yet he remains optimistic about turning their fortunes around.

Struggles on the Field

The latest match saw Manchester United drawing 1-1 against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, a result that left many fans disappointed. United was unable to secure a victory despite Tottenham being reduced to ten players following Rodrigo Bentancur’s red card. This result has now extended Manchester United’s winless streak to four consecutive matches. Out of the last six Premier League games, the team has only managed a single win, placing them in a precarious 13th position with a total of six points. In all competitions, their record shows just two victories from eight outings, prompting questions about Carrick’s future after only five months in a permanent role.

Despite the pressure mounting, Carrick emphasized that he does not feel overwhelmed by expectations. He understands that the demands on Manchester United are immense, but insists that his primary goal is to lead the team towards victory and fulfill their set objectives. “It all depends on how you define pressure. We know what we want and what is expected of us, and that expectation comes from within ourselves,” Carrick stated. “I am aware of the situation, but I don’t feel burdened by that pressure. My focus is just on winning and achieving success. There’s nothing negative here, we are simply meeting this challenge head-on,” he added.

Learning from Challenges

Carrick admitted that Manchester United has often fallen short in their recent encounters. He pointed out that several goals conceded in the closing stages of matches could have been avoided, highlighting that the fine line between winning and dropping points often hinges on minor details. “There will be times when everything seems difficult. If you cannot face adversity and come through it, you won’t achieve success,” Carrick explained. “The differences are minimal. We didn’t start our last match off well, and those late goals we conceded were indeed preventable, but it all comes down to small details,” he elaborated.

Looking ahead to their upcoming UEFA Champions League match against Atletico Madrid on October 14, Carrick reaffirmed his respect for their opponents, acknowledging Atletico’s robust playing identity and the formidable challenge they pose to Manchester United. He stressed that building a successful team is a gradual process, recalling that even Atletico has endured periods when their results did not reflect their potential, despite their eventual successes. “I have great respect for their coach. Building a team takes time. He has been there long enough for his influence to be visible,” Carrick mentioned. “They are incredibly dangerous, and this will be a significant test for us,” he added.

While Carrick recognizes that Manchester United holds higher expectations for their performance, he is aware that the journey this season will not always be smooth sailing. He believes that navigating through adversity directly is essential for the team. The seasoned manager reassured fans that they do not consider their current situation as a calamity. Carrick expressed hope that by rectifying their mistakes, the team can provide the results that their supporters deserve. “We expect much better results. I understand there will be times when things become challenging. That’s just part of the journey,” he remarked. “It is a process. Atletico has also experienced periods when things didn’t go as planned. They have found success, but their journey hasn’t always been straightforward,” he continued. “I understand why people view this situation as a disaster, but that is not how we perceive it. We haven’t lost faith in our capability to turn things around,” Carrick concluded, delivering a message of resilience amid adversity.
