Group stage drama doesn’t compare to the intense action we get in places like the knock-out stage or the semi-finals, but it does bring more than its fair share of chills and thrills. The 1st of April saw the 32 teams in the competition divided into eight categories: Groups A through H. As any true football fan would, we’ve picked our top favorites to qualify in each group, and you can see the details here. We’ll be discussing which of the heavyweights in world cup group H we think has what it takes to move forward and why below.

Teams In Qatar 2022 World Cup Group H

The teams that are in world cup group H are Ghana, Korea Republic, Portugal, and Uruguay. While this group is tough to call, we’ll be backing Portugal as the favorites here. See why below!

Portugal as the Group’s Top Team

Even though Portugal is undoubtedly our favorite, we’d be lying if we said we weren’t a little concerned about how they’re likely to fare out in the field. For starters, they finished qualifiers behind Serbia. There’s also the fact that Ronaldo isn’t getting any younger, and this might very well be his last World Cup appearance. That said, Fernando Santo’s seemingly over-cautious style of play seems to have brought some decent dividends as it has shown that Ronaldo doesn’t need to deliver all the time for the team to thrive. The coach has been able to harness the potential of other great players like Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Jota, Ruben Dias, and Bernardo Silva. All of these resources he would need to use to the fullest if he doesn’t want an unforeseen offset to ruin his chances of lifting silverware.

What To Expect From The Other Teams

Under new coach Diego Alonso, the Uruguay squad has shown that they do still have the potential to go all the way as they won all four of their qualifier matches soundly. But many of their star players like Edinson Cavani aren’t so young, and the age factor can potentiate performance. But even with this, they are by no means the underdog in this group and may be able to clinch the top seat if Portugal isn’t wary enough. Another team that impressed considerably during the qualifiers was South Korea. Under coach Paulo Bento, they suffered just one loss while claiming seven wins and two ties for themselves. The extraordinary Son Heung-min would be looking to distinguish himself in a significant way here, too. Ghana’s performance, however, has been decidedly underwhelming. They were only able to qualify over Nigeria based on goal difference. However, they have one thing going for them; of all the squads in this world cup group H, theirs is the youngest. Moreover, Otto Addo has shown that he knows how to use that to his advantage when it counts.

Bottom Line

Portugal remains our number one team here. But whether they’ll be able to put in a performance to back that up remains to be seen. World cup group H is perhaps the most fertile ground for placing profitable wagers.
