The confusion began after FIFA’s official commentator information system briefly displayed that the Boca Juniors midfielder had been sent off following a heated confrontation after the final whistle. The information quickly spread across social media and several reports claimed that Paredes had received a red card.
However, FIFA later confirmed that the information was the result of a technical error. The incorrect data was removed from the system after officials reviewed the official match report and confirmed that no red card had been issued to the Argentine midfielder.
