Thirty-two national teams. Eight groups. One trophy. The 2022 World Cup is finally in view and promises to be like nothing we’ve ever seen! And while it’s true that much of the drama and suspense of the tournament will only start to unfold after the group stage, we can’t help but start rooting for our favorites from the get-go. We’ve dropped our analysis for our favorites to clear each of the seven other groups; you can find that info here. Without further ado, let’s take a deep dive into world cup Group G and show you not just our favorites but also what other teams to keep an eye on as well!

2022 World Cup Group G Teams

The lucky draw held earlier this year put Brazil, Cameroon, Serbia, and Switzerland in world cup Group G. So, of course, our favorite to lead the group is, without a doubt, Brazil.

Brazil As The Top Gun In 2022 World Cup Group G

Brazil is one of the only national teams consistently featured in all World Cup tournaments. What’s more, not only do they have 5 World Cup trophies in their cabinet, barring their dismal performance in 1966, they’ve consistently made it out of every group they’ve found themselves in for the tournament. Also, as the last non-European side to win this prestigious competition, they remain, realistically speaking, one of the last few non-European teams with the right mix of resources to clinch the win this time. Of course, they have a lot of work to do. And perhaps the most pressing danger for them is their seeming over-reliance on the talisman that is Neymar Jnr. While he never ceases to amaze, the fact remains that their chances of winning can increase if they can adequately relieve him of the excess pressure.

The Other Teams In The Mix

Switzerland may have little of the distinguished profile of Brazil, but they have similar problems, most notable of which is their over-dependence on certain players. Under Murat Yakin, the team seems to flounder or underperform anytime that star man Breel Embolo is absent or isn’t at his best. If they can’t find a way to fix this problem, then even finishing the second might be a significant challenge. The Serbian team appears to flourish in front of goal as coach Dragan Stojkovic seems to have found a way to bring out the best in the likes of Luka Jovic, Aleksandar Mitrovic, and attacking powerhouse Dusan Tadic. However, they seem to do this at the expense of their defense, as they managed to keep just one clean sheet of the eight qualifying games they played. As for Cameroon, they’ll be putting all their bets on the attacking power of Vincent Aboubakar as they showed nothing of their formidable selves throughout the qualifying process. It would be a little surprise if they finished last in the group.

Bottom Line

2022 world cup Group G has just the right mix of intimidation and awkwardness, effectively ensuring that you can’t definitively predict the outcome of any match.
