Badminton is an exciting and highly lovable sport; it always has been. However, a few years showed this as profoundly as 2018. That year delighted badminton spectators with expected annual games like the Asian Championship to the World Championship. It also introduced new sensations and delights like the World Tour format (which was used to replace the Super Series) and the Asian Games. And, while the sheer number of injuries players suffered due to this condensed schedule will likely ensure we don’t get another year like this anytime soon, there’s no doubt that what we did see was truly spectacular. Considering all of the amazing events that took place, if true fans were to choose which tournament was the most fun to watch, it would undoubtedly be the Badminton Asia Team Championships! Let’s have a quick recap of how that fun and memorable event went.

When the draw was finally held on the 23 of January that year, it yielded four groups for the men’s team. Three of these groups held four teams, while one held three teams. Three groups were made up of 3 teams for the women’s team, while the last held four teams.

For The Men’s Team

Only China, Malaysia, Indonesia, and South Korea made it to the semi-finals of the eight teams that threw their hats in the ring. After the match played on the 10 of February, just China and Indonesia were left. The final was played the next day between the two teams at Stadium Sultan Abdul Halim, just like all the other matches, and Indonesia beat China 3-1 to claim their second Badminton Asia Team Championship title in as many tournaments.

For The Women’s Team

This category was as feisty and hard-fought as the men’s team tournament. Here, Japan, Indonesia, South Korea, and China made it to the penultimate phase of the competition. On the 10 of February, Japan and China beat their opponents Indonesia and South Korea 3-0 and 3-1 in an overwhelming victory, respectively. Japan would repeat that same scoreline against China the next day to claim the first of their two Badminton Asia Team Championship titles so far!
